Associate in Arts Degree

The following combination of courses within the Liberal Arts Program provides a foundation in the basic concepts and key practices of contemporary journalism. It also prepares students for transfer to a four-year college or university with a major in Journalism/Communications.

Outcomes:

  • Prepare for and conduct interviews.
  • Write basic news articles.
  • Conduct in-depth reporting and research.
  • Write feature stories.
  • Write a variety of opinion pieces.

Sophomore Year


  • Behavioral Science Elective (3 credits)
  • Science Elective (3 - 4 credits)
  • Fine Arts Elective (3 credits)
  • Humanities Elective (3 credits) 1

  • Behav./Soc.Science Elective (3 credits)
  • Humanities Elective (3 credits) 1
  • Open (2 courses) Electives (6 credits)

Total Credits: 60 - 63


1 One Year of foreign language recommended.

NOTE: A minimum of 15 credits must be taken in 200-level courses.
